Ed is Senior Resident Fellow at the Urban Land Institute. He served as Vice President and Director of Land Use Planning for The Conservation Fund in Arlington, Virginia. He co-founded and was President of Scenic America. He taught at Georgetown University Law Center and served in the U.S. Army. His books include: Ten Principles for Smart Growth on the Suburban Fringe; Green Infrastructure: Connecting Landscapes and Communities; Land Conservation Financing; Better Models for Commercial Development; and Balancing Nature and Commerce in Gateway Communities. Ed holds a master's in Urban Studies from the University of Alabama and a JD from Georgetown University.
