Milestones

2008

• In July, the Foundation selected Biddeford as a Heart & Soul Community Planning town, and Heart of Biddeford started to plan for the two-year project by identifying local collaborators.
• In September, Heart of Biddeford convened an advisory committee and started monthly meetings to plan project activities and map out a timeline for a Spring 2009 project launch.
• In late Fall, Heart of Biddeford staff began training in storytelling and reaching out to local and regional resources; they have since trained their local advisory committee and are developing a detailed work plan on how to gather and share stories as the first step in a broader public dialogue on shared values and concerns.

2009

• In late Spring, the advisory committee held a kick-off celebration, followed quickly by initial outreach and storytelling activities.
• The storytelling process led to development of a variety of multi-media resources highlighting Biddeford community values. These stories also resulted in the creation of Heartspots, special places downtown where passersby can call and leave a story about the location. 150 people attended the storytelling culmination in October.

2010

• In March, Biddeford issued a Request for Proposals for a consultant team to draft a Downtown Master Plan that ensures Biddeford's heart and soul is central to future planning and decision making. The selection process is almost complete, and we look forward to announcing the successful team soon.
• Biddeford is wrapping up a series of neighborhood meetings aimed at identifying issues and ideas for downtown revitalization efforts. In July, a city-wide forum will bring the public together to begin creating a vision for downtown.
