For Immediate Release

Denver, CO — The Orton Family Foundation continues to expand its capacity with a new full-time appointment to the Communications Department. Emily Crespin joined the Foundation in March as a Communications Associate based in the Denver, Colorado office. She will help the Foundation advance its 5-year Heart & Soul Community Planning initiative, broaden Orton’s communications reach, and enhance our capacity to work with communities in the Rocky Mountain West.

Emily comes to the Foundation with a background in public relations and wilderness education. Since completing her MS in technical communications in 2008, Emily has focused primarily on PR for non-profits and has worked with a variety of organizations in Denver. She also spent seven years working closely with several small towns in the Rocky Mountains through her role as Head of Logistics with Outward Bound. In this capacity she helped staff and students build quality, lasting relationships through community service and engagement projects in base camp towns.

“We are thrilled to have Emily join the Foundation’s communications team,” said John Barstow, Orton’s Director of Communications. “And we’re especially pleased to have a native Coloradan based in our Denver office. Emily’s organizational and writing skills, her recent media and public relations experience, and her enthusiasm for our mission make her well suited to spreading the word about our Heart & Soul Community Planning work.”

In preparation for the COMMUNITYMATTERS10 Conference in October, the Foundation has also hired event consulting and management professional Lucia Stewart. Lucia has years of experience developing and coordinating regional New West conferences, which focus on sharing innovative ideas and challenges among small communities throughout the Northern Rockies. She brings a critical set of skills to the Foundation as we gear up for the big event this fall, October 5th through 8th in Denver, Colorado.
