Exeter, RI — “It takes a village,” the old adage goes. In Exeter, Rhode Island, it takes a village to plan a village. The Town recently issued a Request for Proposals for a feasibility study focused on channeling future growth into possible village sites.
Residents of Exeter gather at a public meeting
to discuss the Town’s potential future growth.
Exeter is in the second year of developing its community “Vision”: to retain rural character while supporting development opportunities. The Town is currently working to gain consensus about how best to achieve that vision. So far, many residents agree that compact development paired with land conservation could be the best approach.
“This study will use sound research and citizen involvement to help Exeter determine the best way to grow into the future,” said Betsy Rosenbluth, the Orton Family Foundation’s Director of Northeast Projects. “It will help launch the Town from vision into action—to better understand their choices and take the reins for future growth.”
Consultants selected for this phase will provide technical assistance to help the Town take steps to implement mixed use, village style development as a primary means to manage growth, protect natural resources, and achieve the vision as well as key objectives from Exeter’s Comprehensive Plan.
Find out more about the project and consultant requirements in the full RFP. Completed proposals are due no later than Thursday, April 1st, 2010.
