CommunityViz® Version 4.1 Upgrade

Faster performance and improved interaction make CViz more accessible to everyday users

For Immediate Release

Middlebury, VT — Last year’s release of CommunityViz® Version 4.0 changed the face of community planning software. Now Version 4.1 makes CommunityViz faster and easier to use, with more multimedia options and upgraded interactive displays.

Developed and supported by the Orton Family Foundation and Placeways, LLC, CommunityViz combines computerized maps, video-game-like 3-D scenes, and interactive analysis tools to help people understand the implications and trade-offs of their planning decisions. The software is an ArcGIS® Desktop extension, which means it’s based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS). It can also create scenes for Google Earth.

CommunityViz Version 4.1
enhances the tool’s processing technology for maximum ease and speed. The faster processing makes Version 4.1 more responsive at all scales and opens up new possibilities for detailed regional studies. Additional upgrades include: the ability to use audio, video or other media as part of an interactive analysis; a redesigned web presentation mode called WebShots; and tools that allow a user to conduct a focused analysis of a specific spot on a map.

”CommunityViz has always been interactive,” said Doug Walker, President of Placeways. “Yet this release, with its considerably faster processing and new multimedia, makes interacting with the software more like having a conversation. You ask questions—even complicated ones—and you get immediate responses.”

Free trial downloads and video demos are available now at placeways.com/communityviz. CommunityViz 4.1 is currently compatible with ArcGIS 9.2 and 9.3. Customers with technical support will receive free upgrades to an ArcGIS 10-compatible CommunityViz release in the next several weeks.
